Vintage spokes is owned and operated by me, Shawn Mathiesen, and my husband, Earl Mathiesen. We are now located in Camas, WA, about 15 minutes east of Portland, OR. I began working on bicycles as a little girl, by watching my Dad fix our balloon tire 1960's bicycles. When I went off to college I found part-time work as a mechanic in a local bike shop, and worked there all through college. After graduating I continued to work on bicycles for fun, buying, restoring, and selling them, or simply fixing bikes for friends and family. Working on bicycles is a lifelong passion that I continue to pursue. Earl, a retired cabinetmaker, has worked on DC electrical systems since he was a kid, and is an expert in sanding and finishing products.
In my years of working on bicycles, I've learned some good lessons, and will pass one very important one on to you. I learned this lesson as a little girl, trying to spiff up my bike and make it look pretty: never wax your bicycle seat...
